We headed out mid-July for our first camping trip of the summer. Since our kids love the beach so much we try to fit in at least one camping trip to the beach each summer. They just love playing in the sand and in the water--no matter the weather!
Tristan is usually the lead-engineer when it comes to sand construction.
Ethan blows my mind with how much he loves to play in the freezing cold waters at our beaches.
Ashton loved having so much wide-open space that he could just run and run and play in.
He enjoyed finding some fun treasures, too!
The boys were such troopers, even through it wasn't very warm.
Ashton did eventually end up in the car playing and looking at books. But he was happy!
We roasted some hot dogs for dinner and, of course, marshmallows later on in the evening.
Carter came down with a fever and ended up crashing when we headed to a different beach to play. He just curled up and slept. I felt so bad for him!
He perked up the next morning and the boys had fun running and playing with a friend they had met the day before in the campsite next door. There was a little wooded patch in the center of the loop we were camping in and they made it kind of a little fort. They were entertained for hours!Ashton did his best to keep up with those big kids!
We headed back for another trip to the beach later in the afternoon and the boys enjoyed this shelter from the wind.
Carter hit a wall while we were there and crashed again. Not the best camping trip for him.
Ashton and I play a little frisbee while Carter slept and Tristan and Ethan hit the (freezing) water.
We wandered up to have a little picnic lunch...
...and Carter continued to just sleep. I'm sure he so wished he could have been curled up in his own bed!
We went up into the observation tower to see the sights. Look at that devilish grin!
After lunch we went back down to play for a bit. Tristan and Ethan had some one-on-one time out in the water. They had this little island they built and just sat on and talked. It made my heart melt just a little.
Poor baby.
Ashton ended up in the car again. I think he really just wanted to get behind the wheel!
Ethan found this cool fossil-like rock.
While we prepped dinner the boys went back to playing in their fort and Ashton was again running to keep up with what the big kids were doing.
Carter felt much better by the end of the day and no longer had a fever...but Ethan woke up with one the next morning. Whatever it was, it made the rounds.
We ran into town to check out some shops and get some saltwater taffy before we headed home. Ethan did his best to be perky, but he was down for the count for sure. The boys loved this skull we found in one of the shop window and wanted their picture next to it.
The weather wasn't great and we had sick kids, but we sure made some fun memories. Camping is something that we really love doing together, so I know there will be other trips!
